Educational Requirement

In order to be a Travel nurse, candidate must possess an RN title. The pathway to earning an RN title is obtaining a BSN degree in nursing and passing the NCLEX exam. Once candidate obtains RN title, can select their area of specialty based on their interest. There are numerous specialties to choose from such as cardiac care, labor& delivery, pediatrics by enrolling in a specialty program or pursuing a MSN degree.
 

Role & Responsibility of a Travel Nurse

Role and responsibility of a travel nurse tend to vary greatly depending upon the nursing specialty they choose. For instance- a travel nurse with a specialty in cardiac care will be working in Cardiac Care Units ICUs or cardiac care floor. 

Work Assignments                                  


Work assignment for travel nurse ranges from 10 to 52 weeks, however in general 13 is a common period of time for assignments. Travel nurses enjoy the benefit of flexible schedule. They may take up one assignment wherein they work for 13 weeks and can take rest of the month off.

Salary


As per the survey reports of U.S, BLS in 2013 median salary for RNs was $66,220 and top 10 even earned a median salary of &96,320. A Travel nurse often earns significantly more than the RNs, their average rate of pay is $25 to $40 per hour.
